Design store concept for Danish design brand HAY in China starting with three stores in Chengdu, Suzhou and Shanghai and then rolled out in other locations. The idea was to create a sense of moving through a museum or gallery space but with residential references like a classic herringbone wooden floor of a Copenhagen apartment. The main architectural characteristic is an oversized grid system connecting to wall panels to create abstracted ‘rooms’ where changes of flooring indicate different product categories. The overall aesthetic plays to HAY’s eclectic, colorful and youthful universe. Materials including galvanized metal, concrete and glass are aligned with HAY products and augmented with boldly colored curtains.
