Aarhus, Denmark
Architecture and interior design of a combined showroom for Dinesen and Garde Hvalsøe in a richly decorated space in a heritage apartment building in Aarhus, Denmark. Set up like a home, the project plays up the heritage features like the hand-painted glass ceilings and dark woodwork, adding edgy contemporary elements. It involved a high degree of bespoke design from a monolithic staircase made completely in Dinesen Douglas and a sculpture inspired by stacked wood during the drying process, to specially created paint colors picking out tones from the ceiling, and huge lightboxes. Custom pieces include freestanding storage units, a minimalist 18-seater table made of tomato red stained Dinesen Douglas planks, a metal daybed, and a coffee table in folded metal steel with a yellow-zinc opalescent coating.
